Analysis names 27 top HMOs
A company specializing in the managed care industry has identified what it says are the nation’s 27 top performing HMOs based on an analysis of report cards from five national and two California agencies.
Managed Care On-Line, a software and communications company, released its findings this spring, listing the top three HMOs as DeanCare of Wisconsin, Harvard Community Health Plan of Massachusetts, and HealthAmerica of Pennsylvania.
Each received two top ratings in national studies. In California, Health Plan of the Redwoods clinched the title with lead rankings in both studies in the state and one national study.
The studies Managed Care On-Line used in its analysis included:

HCFA: Best Practices HMO Report;
Newsweek: Foundation for Accountability Rating of America’s Largest HMOs;
FEHBP: Customer Satisfaction Survey;
National Research Corporation: Health Plan Report Card;
NCQA: Accreditation Performance.
• California.
Cal-Pers: Health Plan Quality/Performance Report;
Pacific Group on Health: Health Plan Value Check.
